Cups

This is going to Split the Pack, I know: I have never really liked the look of the Wheels on my 968.
The Black Centres and Polished Lips combination on the Cup 2 alloys has never really done it for me. Sure, it’s a classic design, it was even an Option from New back in ’94 on the 968 Cabriolet, albeit with Body Colour Centres; it has been a design that has featured on many Porsches.

I have had it on the List of Things To Do for almost as long as I have owned the 968, so on the way back from its MOT, I dropped in to DC Alloys who happened to be on the way Home; Essential becomes Opportunity.

I popped in and met Dan.. There are times in Classic Car ownership when, discussing prospective Work with a Garage Mechanic, it just feels right. There is a Click, and with Dan, I got that Click straight away. He wanted to do things the right way, not the quickest, easiest or cheapest way. Sure it was my Buck we were talking about, but I wanted it done right.

I dropped off the Car first thing on a Monday morning, with an understanding that Dan would have it for the Week. As it transpired, there was some [a lot] of corrosion on the reverse of the Alloys that took their Intern the better part of two days to clean up, so the job would run into the following week [not that I needed the Car]. There was something encouraging about hearing this; not the Corrosion part, but the Proper Job part.

The Centre Caps also had seen better days and needed replacing. They are not the usual Plastic units, but the Aluminium units with a 928 Part No. In short, they were knackered..
Sure, I could have repaired or restored these, but I wasn’t keen on the Crest at the centre of the Red wheel, so opted to sell these on Ebay for £35, and pick up a new set from Design 911 inc. Porsche Tax.
I rocked up to DC Alloys to collect the 968 and was so so pleased with the look.. Wow.. The Car was transformed..! The Paint still looked wet it was so perfect, so polished. This was not Powder Coating; this was Base Coat, Colour then Clear Coat.. The quality of finish is another level of quality, and one that befits the 968, I could not believe how good they looked.. And for £120 a corner..! If you want your Wheels done and done properly, give Dan a call on 01271 267 570..

I swear the 968 drove faster on the way Home..
Some gratuitous Photos for your viewing pleasure, taken once I had Washed & Waxed the Porker..
Money Shot..
But enough of what I think of the new Look, what do you think..?

Love the 968 (and your old 993!). I happened to stumble across your blog when I was looking at reupholstering my Recaro Profi’s. Cheers from a 993 C4S owner in Chicago!
